Only isolated avalanche prone locations at high altitudes

The avalanche risk is generally low. Isolated avalanche prone locations can be found at high altitudes in extremely steep gullies in the northern sector, where large additional loads can occasionally trigger smaller slab avalanches. The danger of falling dominates over the danger of avalanches!

Snowpack

The snow surface is mostly hard and icy, with slopes up to over 2000 metres above sea level on sunny slopes. A few centimetres of new fallen snow were added on Wednesday. Below the melting snow crust, kinetic metamorphism is weakening the snow layering on the northern sides.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will remain low in the coming days.

Avalanche Problem
Wet snow

Low avalanche danger, small wet snow slides possible.

The avalanche risk is low. Nevertheless, small, spontaneous wet snow avalanches can be expected from steep terrain on the sunny slopes as the weather warms up and the sun shines.

Snowpack

Up to 35 cm of new fallen snow has fallen in the Koralpe area since Wednesday. The new fallen snow only covers persistent weak layers in shady gullies and bowls above the tree line in the northern sector, otherwise it fell on apery ground. With the warming and sunshine, the new fallen snow quickly becomes moist on the sunny slopes. A crust of melted snow forms at night.

Tendency

The avalanche danger will remain low over the next few days.
